i was wondering if you could start by explaining those two concepts and how they help you to understand surveillance, capitalism. In the book, you outline how you see technology through the lenses of idealism and materialism. Well, i guess you know that the there's a prevailing story around the world to day, that the reason that people seem so unreasonable is because something has happened to them with tech. Tech has allowed them to be manipulated by an ethical people who figured out hada worm their way past their critical defenses and get them believe things that would otherwise be outlandish.
Paris Marx is joined by Cory Doctorow to discuss how the problems we associate with Big Tech aren’t the result of mind-control systems, but corporation consolidation. Cory argues we need to stop buying the overblown sales pitch, stop collecting so much data, and enforce antitrust legislation against the tech monopolies.
