The Donkey's Choice

In a fable from Jean Burden, the donkey can't decide between two bales of hay. And so in the story, the donkey doesn't ever make a choice and so it dies. "I think right there is encapsulated what I think about as human agency," he says. The short summary maybe is something like we're always facing these selection problems and agency is the solution to it.
