The Choice Theory of Rights
The choice or will theory of rights is close to the view of rights that I discussed earlier when we think of rights as a kind of individual sovereignty. This theory was most famously defended by Jeremy Bentham, the founder of utilitarianism. The choice theorist rejects the benefit theory because they think it really isn't a theory of rights at all.
