The Arbitrariness of History
I think it applies to both the kind of I guess the macro story of the, you know, the political construction of the United States. But also the sort of the micro story, not that it's micro in the book of CM and yes, there's a moment the CM writes how closely our lives drift, drift past other lives. How narrowly we become ourselves and not some adjacent other someone either near at hand or too much too far away. It can be a vertigo inducing when you think of, oh, if I hadn't like received that letter that day before I got on the plane, I would have never met my wife but then where would I be?
