'Tis the Season to Listen to a Solo by Cris Potters
Cris potters alto sack solo and steely dans janie runaway, from their two thousand albums to against nature. i want you to be able to practise hearing a solo for the first time and just immediately picking up what the soloist is putting down. And with all that in your ear, i want to play one more strong solo for you, a sort of final exam for your understanding of motific development.
There's nothing like a good instrumental solo—that moment when a lone player stands in the spotlight and takes the helm, leading the band in an uncharted direction. On the first edition of Strong Solos, Kirk takes apart a few of his favorite solos, which a special focus on players who use motivic development, also known as theme and variations.
