People were looking for the mummies themselves or inscriptions, but hadn't paid that much attention. They found resin from trees that only grow in tropical rainforests in India or beyond. The two trees and super rare and don't grow anywhere near Egypt. So not only are these chemical residues showing how they made the mummies, but they're also showing that this was a global process where they had to import this stuff from thousands of kilometers away.
