Judah and the Promised Seed

Joseph is taken away by a group of people that is not the promised seed. Do you think Judah was trying to save his Joseph's life or to make a buck? I don't think those have to be mutually exclusive. They sell him into slavery and that was some Ishmaelites, which is interesting. And also Midianites and Midian also, as Sam pointed out, descends from Abraham via Katura.
