The History of the Spanish Army

When simon bolivar was born, in 17 83, his native venezuela was fairly well thriving. To defend this new thriving economy, without that defence draining off all the profits, the spanish also reoriented their military sture. So the army started creating regiments drawn directly from the american population. And then to augment that local strength, they vastly expanded the existing militia system. Service in both the regular army and the militia became a principal avenue of upward mobility. It put the enlistee under a special military law that was far more responsive and rational than local justice.
