Brain Science with Ginger Campbell, MD: Neuroscience for Everyone
What Is the Basis for Dreaming?
The reason we dream at night is because these very sophisticated mechanis s in the brain that are hard wired in there, every 90 minutes or so become active and slam activity back into the visual cortex. Because the brain is a great story teller, we impose narra on top of that, and we wake up and say, oh my gosh, i just had this weird experience. And presumably the content of dreams has to do with whatever synapses are hot from whatever you've experienced in the daytime. We have lots and lots dreamsleep, more than any other species.
