Haiti is comprised of people coming from Western Central Africa. The average lifespan of a enslaved African is up to 33 years. And so you have to think about these people coming from West Central Africa, again, forced we move to Haiti and they're having to work for nothing. So when we talk about the violence of colonialism, the amount of deaths that was happening and the forceful movements in which many Haitians were involved. It has everything to do with colonialism and diaspora in terms of we need to think about how we practice our own indigenous religions. We are more than just what you're providing for us," she says.
