Melinda Mills is a professor of demography at the University of Oxford. She says life expectancy has increased as well as people living for longer. But many countries also have record low birth rates, she adds. In 1980 China introduced a strict policy which limited most families to having just one child. After more than 30 years in force it was dropped in 2015 however the surge in birth rates hasn't happened.
