Proof of Work and Proof of Stake
Proof of work is a permission system, and it always will be. Proof of stake is the central banking system that we want to move away from. It's very hard to build up a system where you have a trustless arrow of time. The difficulty adjusted proof of work solves the timing problem first and foremost. And so, both of those things in a very beautiful way.
