The Who's Waltz for Pig
The Who had just put out a hit single, Substitute. The album was a mixture of originals by Mayall and standard blues songs. But what made the album unique was Clapton's guitar tone. He insisted on playing at the same volume that he would on stage. By the time the album came out, Clapton was no longer with the blues breakers. Ginger Baker had for some time been wanting to get out of the Graham Bond organization. John Antwhistle of the Who would often tell a story about an article in Melody Maker.
