Kanakamali-Led Defense of Manukaya

The prominent journalists we've spoken with work at a range of journalism organizations across genres and mediums. Many have covered major social movements like Standing Rock in 2017 in the United States and Idle No More in 2012, 2013 in Canada. As we make final edits to this chapter, the Kanakamali-led defense of Manukaya is underway after several years of legal interventions to stop the building of the 30 meter telescope. Much of what this chapter suggests and questions is relevant in that context as well in terms of indigenous journalists' coverage or pushback via Twitter against mainstream media coverage by Kanakamali.
