How Much Exposure Did You Have Going Back to the Philippines as a Kid Growing Up?
Only my mother is Filipino. My father is white. He was in the Peace Corps. I met my mother in the Philippines, she was his language teacher. Met married over there, moved here. And then I grew up, I went to the Philippines once when I was a child. Then we moved to Kansas and I was sort of detached from all of that. We would still see them for family reunions, but it really wasn't until I went to college in Chicago that I really reconnected with that. Yeah. That's what I mean when I say I'm trying to negotiate multiple layers of belonging and of cultural and ethnic identity.
