There's a vulnerability in Windows 10 Defender where excluded folders, which they use can be seen by processes running via registry entries. Malicious code can then copy itself to any excluded folder and then run it from there bypassing Windows Defender in Windows 10. This issue is only fixed in Windows 11 and with the hardware requirements of Windows 11, not everyone can upgrade just yet. So I would just make sure that you are doubling down on avoiding having malware installed on your system.
