The Importance of Sharing Emotional Novocaine
The act of being with each other as we manage difficult emotions is how we build trust. If your goal going into the conversation is to avoid all emotion, you're not going to communicate very well. You don't want to cause the person intentionally. I was working with one person in my career who will go unnamed and he thought his job as a boss was to intentionally upset people. It's not that management is like parenting. That's the wrong mindset.
