The Misunderstanding of Life Not Being Metabolic
The body for Aristotle does not set up its own life functions. It receives the impetus for those from the soul. So the body breaks down but the soul is essentially alive, and so then you just have separation of the soul and body. Unless you're an animal soul and a plant or a plant soul, and then you dissolve,. That he doesn't necessarily have a great explanation for. But I'm just saying it gets a bit mysterious when you get into the question of what exactly happens at death.
