The Resource Curse Isn't Just a Modern Thing
There is a persuasive theory that the resource curse caused the fall of the Spanish Empire. Spain was able to bring back huge amounts of precious minerals to Europe, silver, gold and other minerals. This influx of cash from the sale of minerals found in Latin America had made it lazy,. It wasn't building any strong foundations that would help preserve its strength. But there are countries that disprove everything I've said - such as Canada or Norway.
