Mina: Some people thought the American military presence was impeding on South Korea's own sovereignty. In 1980, you had something called the Kwangju uprising. The dictator at the time, Chongdhuwan, used deadly force against student demonstrators. And angered by the killings, local citizens rose up against the government.
