The Problem With Chest Tubes for Pneumonia
The vast, vast majority aren't bacterial in nature to begin with. So the likelihood that you're going to get a positive blood culture from a kid who has a viral pneumonia is almost never. It's interesting even in adults actually when they looked, most pneumonias are caused by virus. And that is what I hope one day we actually have is a more definitive test that can tell us viral versus bacterial because the CRP as much as we love them.
