The asteroid belt, home to over one million asteroids, could contain precious metals worth a whooping 700 quintillion dollars. These metals are buried deep inside the earth's crust, nearly three thousand kilometers below the surface. If we used water mine from astroids, we could split them into hydrogen and oxygen and re purpose it as fuel. Also note that water is a precious commodity in space. It costs between nine thousand dollars and forty three thousand dollars to send a water bottle into space. But if we could extract water from nearby asteroids, life would become a lot easier.
In today’s episode for 28th September 2022, we talk about NASA’s mission to intercept asteroids and how it could possibly open the doors for a lucrative new industry
