Service Charges - Can a Tax Be Levied on the Service Charge?
Some restaurants swear that they distribute the proceeds diligently to the staff members. But others aren't as prompt and may simply pocket a sizable chunk of this themselves. The hindo business line tried to find an answer three years ago, and found one official from the finance ministry argued that gst had to be levied on the service charge. Even the officials are confused, it seems.
