The History of Southern Gaul

Paulus served as a middleman in the trade between Africa and southern Gaul. He traded olive oil, fine tableware from Africa to sites all over Arl. The scale of that trade dropped after Roman rule but it wouldn't disappear until Paulus's great-grandchildren. In northern Gaul things were much more like Britain than they were in Provence or Aquitaine. It wasn't just the aristocracy that could go right on thinking not all that much had changed with the end of direct Roman rule.
