The Growth of Online Publishing and Scientific Communication?

In the nineteenth century, researchers published their results in a variety of formats. We've now shifted to a system where people tend to consume individual articles that are most specifically relevant to their research. I don't think there are a lot of scientists who sit down with an issue of a journal and look through each paper any more. It's now a much more targeted digital search for specific papers of interest,. rather than excitement to read the latest issue of a specific journal. And so that shift in the way that people are reading about scientific research results puts us in the same kind of moment where researchers want something different from their scientific journal articles.
