Transplanting a Common Law
Common law was developed hundreds of years ago by judges roaming around the English countryside. They then adapted that to a range of circumstances around the world, and places where they already had their own legal systems in many cases. The common law transportation process is not just about translating a quote, it's about trying to grasp a whole set of cases stretching back centuries.
