In St. Julian's day, to be an anchor I wouldn't have been looked upon as we look upon it now. The spontaneity almost has to be a conjunction of different elements like in the low countries in Belgium,. A lot of women who wanted to pursue a religious life did not want to go to a convent. And so wealthier women figured out that they could purchase buildings and invite poorer women to live with them.
