The Origins of Witchcraft

Gotez were specialists in funerary rites and other aspects of treating the dead. The name for their practices, Goetia, became a general term from malevolent magic. In essence, because death is bad, the person that deals with death must also be bad. They came to associate these legendary female monsters with witchcraft over time. Women who don't follow men's rules, bad, unsanctioned, practitioners of magic who don't following the rules passed by the state, is state controlled by men, bad. Witches, women plus magic? The fucking worst. Known in the ancient world actually knew any real life malevolent witches though.
