The History of Hop Extracts
Hip extracts started to be looked into in the early 1800s. They were using all kinds of different solvids and different things that you wouldn't necessarily want in your beers today. In 1803 Dr. AF Galen made a water-based extract where he basically just boiled down hops, reboiled and reboiled in order to concentrate out that water. And then really it was in around 1965 to the late 1970s, as when CO2 started being the main primary extract. So these are tools that can be used to help you reach whatever goals your brewery has.
