Social fragmentation is the product of mere liberalism, says anton. In absence of pre existing social solidarities such as nation or class,. that sense of dissolution is felt much more keenly. That feeds in to the suspicion, the paranoia and the feelingf social collapse and disintegration. And obviously then feeds into the feeling of the imminence or the possibility of civil war - which i think is more likely.
