The End of the Center Party in Germany

The center party in Germany had been able to maintain a solid base of support due to its position as the party of choice for Catholic Germans. This would all change during the summer of 1933, when it was removed from political activity by the Nazi leadership. The full extent and implications of the Concordot signed between the government of Germany and the Catholic Church during this period is a discussion for a later date. But for our story right now, it's enough to know that it was signed on July 1st, and it was the end of the centerparty in Germany.
