The Death of Saul and His Sons
David slew eighteen thousand Edomites in the Valley of Salt. When Toy, King of Hamath, heard that David had defeated the whole army of Haddadezer, he sent his son Joram to greet him and congratulate him. So David reigned over all Israel. He administered justice and equity to all his people. His sons were priests. The Philistines overtook Saul and his sons on Mount Gilboa. Then they stripped them from their armor and buried them under an oak tree. They fasted for seven days as a mark of remembrance.
