The Study of Antiquity and the Middle Ages

CHAPTER

The Stoic Technique

The view from above involves trying to contemplate the whole universe and picturing current events within this beggar context of space and time. The stoics would regular imagine other bad things, not just the ron death, but illness, poverty, exile and so on. Another big thing that the stoics used to do is to contemplate their own death, again, an idea that they can have inherited from socrates and his followers. By contemplating our own mortality, it helps us to value the present moment more and to cherish life as an opportunity.
