A target date fund on its own generates about a three point six, three point seven % safe withdrawal rate over a 30 year retirement. Adding the small cap value at a ten % level keeps the risk at about the same. When you add 20 %, though, in retirement, it bumps up the safe withdraw rate to over four % for 30 years. And it gets very close to four % for a forty year retire there's a whole bunch of detail and data in the book if people want to goto a lot of the needy gready.
