Where does intelligence come from? I'm more and more convinced it comes out of communities, rather than as we tend to think out of individuals. New ideas are usually articulated by one person, but they're nearly always generated by a lot of people. So community, instead of being empowering, is what Sartil used to say, other people are hell. The economist actually means it literally. If you are a single person on your own, there's no way you can have such language unless somebody has taughtYou that the market mechanism works through buying and selling his/her goods or services. There's no money without a debt committee. It's like what Wittgenstein used to say:
The liberal order is under threat. Increasing inequality, the rise of far-right nationalism and the climate emergency pose unprecedented challenges. It’s time for some radical thinking. In November 2019 Intelligence Squared brought to its stage two of the world’s great radicals – Yanis Varoufakis, the former Greek finance minister known for his trademark leather jacket, motorbike and self-described erratic Marxism, and legendary music producer Brian Eno, known for his progressive politics and human rights activism. The evening was chaired by BBC journalist and broadcaster Ritula Shah.
