Where does intelligence come from? I'm more and more convinced it comes out of communities, rather than as we tend to think out of individuals. New ideas are usually articulated by one person, but they're nearly always generated by a lot of people. So community, instead of being empowering, is what Sartil used to say, other people are hell. The economist actually means it literally. If you are a single person on your own, there's no way you can have such language unless somebody has taughtYou that the market mechanism works through buying and selling his/her goods or services. There's no money without a debt committee. It's like what Wittgenstein used to say:
