If you wanted to start a rebellion in Hoei, in Africa, all you needed at the time was a satellite phone. Half the people of the country didn't even know that they were being attacked until they had it on focus. One Christmas I wrote and produced a satirical Bush House pantomime for broadcast. The absurd malice in Blunderland was about management consultants, malice and scrooge trying to close the World Service down. In order to save it, the audience was asked, in true panto style, if they believed in the World Service.
