For a very long time, both in america and england, parliament has been seen as the righteous party in the english civil war. And charles is a benighted and sinister enemy of liberty,. The irish think otherwise, due to the ill treatment by the protestants. None of this can be comprehended without the backdrop of a complex set of protestant groups.
