The Importance of Spiritual Communion

The catholic theological tradition maintains that there are two ways of eating the body of christ, sacramentally and spiritually. Eating sacramentally is receiving the eucharist under the species of bread and wine. We also need to eat the sacrament spiritually, which is to receive the effect of the sacrament. And that effect is being united to christ through faith and charity. This means that the perfect reception of the sacrament occurs when we eat in both ways,. Receiving the body of the lord sacramentally and being united to him tally. But this twofold eating doesn't always happen. For example, if some one receives the Eucharist unworthily they truly may eat the body of Christ sacramentally
