The Zero Point Energy of Empty Space
Quantum mechanics tells us in some ways that you can't have anything that is perfectly empty with no energy. The zero point energy is the absolute minimum of energy you could have anywhere. And so what ends up happening is with this zero point energy, which is non zero in empty space, quantum mechanics takes a hold and random things happen because quantum mechanics is not deterministic.
