The Syncretic Universality of Symbols

Symbols don't tend to knock you upside the head, they can. What brings me comfort when I'm analyzing symbols and trying to understand the meaning behind the messages I think I'm getting is syncretic universality. That's the academic term for the way multiple cultures, multiple myth cycles across the whole world have common themes.
