The Roman Quip That Events of the Year Took Place in Caesar's Consulship
A land commission was created to oversee the redistribution. Caesar declared that he would not take an active role in the project. Crass and Pompey, however, both agreed to the honor of serving the people as commissioners. After the law took effect, it was clear that there was not enough land to fill all the requests. The man who was to become Julia's husband was shocked when his prospective bride was pulled out from under him.
