The WHO Sample Sharing Network and the Indonesian Influenza Epidemic
Indonesia pulled out of the WHO sampling sharing network during a prior flu epidemic that was occurring. Indonesia felt as though they had freely shared these samples under the with the understanding they would be for everyone's benefit and so on. Since then there's always been a discussion of what happens with intellectual property and what happens with agreements in terms of how are those benefits shared amongst countries.
