There's so many things that people don't understand about how childbirth occurs. When a baby is ready to be born it releases some hormones which then go on to trigger other hormones in the mother which start the contractions. Only 4% of babies are born on the day that they're predicted to be born on. 40 weeks gestation is a guesstimate really and the date that you're given by the by the initial consultation is just playing with numbersreally.
