People dislike explanations that are generally very good, but have certain exceptions to the rule. One danger of trying to look for a good explanation is that the world is not always well behaved. Sometimes things just are coincidences, or don't have elegant explanations. But there's going to be other cases where the cost of failing to learn is the cost that i want to try to avoid....
