Alpha-1 Anti-Tripsin Deficiency Related Liver Disease

Liver disease results from misfolding and clumping of abnormal alpha-1 anti-tripsin in hepatocytes, which then injures mitochondria. There seems to be a bidirectional link between liver disease and alpha-1 and obesity. Obesity is a prime risk factor for alpha-1 liver disease progression,. cirrhosis and heterozygosity foralpha-1 seeming to be a risk factor for progression of fatty liver disease to nastorosis.
