Docker Hub was a standardized way to share images and collaborate with other people around this standardized image format that Docker made so popular. The worst thing about how Docker went about announcing this news was at the time of the initial email, which wasn't even a blog post. This is a really insidious move on their part, if you ask me,. There are going to be dozens, hundreds, thousands of terabytes worth of images stored up there right now, making them very little money in the long run.
