Sulla's old menti lucius cornelius sulla was building a name for himself around opposition to marius. King bochus the numidian was the roman's new ally in north africa since the end of the war with ugurtha. Sulla instructed him to commission a gilded statue group to be placed prominently on the capitoline hill depicting the goddess victory, and next to her, a historical scene in which bocus was depicted handing over ugurtha to sulla.
