The Goals of a Conference
I think that originally at least an academic conference the goal is to disseminate research, especially new research that hasn't been published for a long distance. The size of a conference has become a reason to not go. I would actually break conferences up into smaller conferences, and a society and academic society. Let's have like a lottery. And based on topic, we're just going to assign 150 people to meet this month150 people to meet that month. That would work. But I think it would get back to being more fun, and allow you to actually have even a possibility of networking and chatting with a lot of people who you might not have otherwise.
