Before russia invaded, fertilizer was two to three times more expensive than it had been the year before. High natural gas prices have caused nitrogen as fertilizer prices to be excessively volatile all year. China enacted an export ban on nitrogen base fertilizers in october of last year, and extended the band this year when it was originally due to expire. Chinese fertilizer prices are now higher than they were when the band was put in place,. analysts anticipate that their band will carry through into 20 23. European producers have been unable to make up for the shortages.
