A Falling Star on Mars
Six years before the main events of the story, ogilvy invites the narrator to an observatory. After another astronomer reported a dramatic explosion of gas on the surface of the planet which seems to be directed towards earth. Many other people witness the phenomenon, which repeats itself at midnight over a total of ten days. Nobody is concerned or worried about the explosions on mars. Six years later, some people see a falling star - but nobody assumes there is anything weird going on.
